My Squishy Squishy Squash

I love this time of year for one reason, Squishy Squash. If you're wondering what in the world I'm talking about, let me explain. Squishy Squash is an old time family favorite that goes back to my great grandma Olds at least. I have probably eaten it a hundred or so times and I still get excited for the first yellow crook necked squash that pops out every year in the garden. My mom and grandma both have made the dish over and over for me and I swear it's better everytime I eat it. I have still not been able to master it like they have. However Paige begged me to make her Squishy Squash at 10am yesterday morning so I must be doing something right. I wouldn't exactly call it a recipe, considering the fact that it's pretty much squash and butter, it's just all in the way you cook it. So I'm letting you all in on the step by step guide to our family famous Squishy Squash.

1 - Cut yellow squash (onion optional but preferred)
2 - Cook yellow squash in lots of butter until it's soft enough to mash with fork
3 - Add lots more butter and salt and pepper
4 - Make it even less fattening by topping it off with melted cheese
5 - Mush some more in your bowl and ENJOY!

PS...If you're looking for a healthy squash recipe, this is not it.

Now don't pretend all you ladies out there my age aren't excited about this one. You know it, 90210 is back! I watched the premiere tonight and I have to admit I was expecting it to be totally lame and it kinda wasn't. I think I'm already hooked. The content was a little questionable, but no worse than when we were kids and definitely not as bad as Gossip Girl. Kelly and Brenda are back. All who watched let me know what you thought. You know you watched it!

Gabe's First Day

I totally forgot to post a picture of Gabe's first day. Now that the first week is over the hype is gone but oh well. Gabe did good and really likes his teacher. The day seems so long and he is exhausted by time he gets home but I guess that's how it goes. I have to say this year was harder for me than kindergarten. I don't know why. He's just such a little guy for such a big giant school. I guess most mom's feel that way though.

A Day On The Farm

 
We had such a fun weekend with my family on Grandma's farm in New Harmony. It was good to get away and enjoy country life. The kids rode four wheelers all day, played with their cousins Kate and Tate, slept out under the stars, and went on a beautiful hike up Kolob Canyon. It was great.

Little Lakettes

Paige and her cousin Katelyn danced at the high school football game with the Little Lakettes. They were both so cute and did such a cute job. They were mostly just excited to get dressed up and wear makeup. This was the first dance type thing I've ever had Paige in so it was really fun to watch her.

Bows and Arrows

Dean crafted up these awesome bows and arrows for Gabe and his friend Parker while we were camping last weekend. Pretty creative huh!

Mom, I'm Thirsty!

I've caught Wade doing something strange again. I think he was thirsty so he decided to drink from the little drips coming out of the faucet. It made me feel a little guilty that this is how he has to quench his thirst.

Carnival Bash

I'm planning a backyard carnival for Paige for her birthday. I'm starting a little early mostly for the fact that I love birthdays and and I'm just in the mood to throw a party. Last months Parents magazine features a really cute carnival party and this is their cake. I can't wait to make it! If you have any fun carnival suggestions let me know. Also, I'm looking for an adult clown costume that Dean can wear, so if anyone happens to have one that they would like me to borrow (or rent) I would really appreciate it.

GO USA

The Olympics are here and I LOVE gymnastics! I've got my DVR all set up for next week so I don't miss a thing. I've been watching all these girls through all of the qualifying stuff and they have an awesome team. I suggest you all watch for this Shawn Johnson because she is incredible and I suspect she will do something amazing!
