Important Question???

I want all of you to tell me how you feel about the flu shot. Tell me if and why you get it and who you get it for in each of your families. I have never done the flu shot for any of us except we did one of the series last year for Wade, but the other day at the doctor they acted like He would DIE if I didn't get it for him and he got the flu and it would be all my fault pretty much. I'm just not one for sticking needles in kids when not totally necessary. Plus, the doctor's office is probably where he'll end up getting the flu. What do you think????

i was a skeptic for a long time, especially since the shot doesn't protect against all strains. however, it does protect against the top 3 worst. everyone thinks they won't get stomach flu when getting this shot, and when they do, get all upset they got the shot anyway.
this shot is for REAL flu - nasty fevers, achiness, congestion, general misery. we started getting them 2 years ago (minus lily, since she was only 3 mos.)...and she got the flu! it was a nightmare, i really thought my poor baby was going to die twice. so, we all get them now - with one in preschool & our exposure to sickness just getting heavier all the time (church, shopping, etc.), it's worth it! they're usually free with insurance & very minimal cost without (like $10). you can usually do flumist for kids, too, and avoid the pokes if that's a problem.
and...it has helped our winter sickness overall every season since.

We have done them some years and not others. I haven't seen any difference with us. So I don't have strong feelings either way, but like you, have noticed that my doctors do! Sorry, I'm not much help. I have wondered about it like you in the past. Actually, my only strong feeling on it all is that booster! What's up with that! I hate taking my kids to the doctor anyway and so having to go back a couple weeks later is the worst.

I had Carson get it one year, but have not done it since. I'm pretty stingy with medicine at our house. I hardly ever give it to my kids, unless I feel like they really really need it. So, it's hard for me to want to get my kids an extra shot every year, especially when it's not manditory. But, our doctor also acts like I really should do it, so I question my decision every year. Good luck!

I get the flu shot every year too. I just got it Wed. I just don't have time to be sick. I don't know what I would do for my kids. It's tough to give more shots, but like I said, I HATE Being sick.

I get mine every year because I work at the hospital. I get my kids one every year because they go to school, and I work at the hospital. I can only remember 1 year since I started in the NICU that I got the flu. With Wade, it's better to not risk it. You should at least get Wade the shot, just because he was a preemie.

I haven't had the flu in a long time but Mike was really sick last year with it. Thank heavens he was the only one who got it. This year I am planning to get one. I am having Luke get one too because I'm afraid that with his asthma and all the flu could really be bad for him. I was going to go on Thursday and get it but they only had the adult vaccine and are on back order for the child's vaccine. I didn't know there was a difference. Anyway, I asked my pharmacist and she said that this year they are recommending that all children get them.

We get them, I trust my doctor, he doesn't make any money off giving them and recommends it anyway. My kids had a great winter last year so i'll try it again. I think we will do the flu mist though, it costs a bit more but to avoid the needles, it's worth it! (I think with NO insurance the mist is $30) Anyway, good luck in deciding, i'm sure Wade won't DIE without it!
