Grandma's Noodles

I will now share a family tradition that dates back as far as I know to my Great Grandma Olds, if not farther. Noodles for Thanksgiving Dinner. You heard that right....Noodles. As far as I know it's the good people of St. George who claim this one but I don't know where it really originates from, all I know is I'm a part of it and I love it. When both my mom and grandma were young it was a huge part of their Thanksgiving to help in the making of the noodles. I love to hear my mom describe it. They would roll out the dough, cut the pasta and set it out on the beds to dry. Then what is done with the noodles you ask? They are cooked in a big pot of chicken stock and served over the mashed potatoes. No gravy for this family. I did take part in the making of the noodles a couple of times as a child but these days we've resorted to the frozen Grandma Noodles. They are still my favorite part of Thanksgiving Dinner and I look forward to it every year. My mom and I are determined to master the homemade version this year so stay tuned.

When Shan and I were first married I found out that his family does this too!(Must be a St. George thing) I think it is so weird. And I have to say gross too. Yes, I have tried it. And no thank you! I would much rather just have gravy on my potatoes. But, EVERYONE in Shans family loves them.
